The Museum's painting and sculpture collection contains
about 100 pieces, including icons and miniatures. Among these works of art is a special
group of pictures which belonged to the Dostoevsky family: “Fight for the Dice”
and “Portrait of an Elderly Man," paintings by unknown artists of the
17th-century Flemish school; “Prayer for the Cup” and “The Mysterious Evening
Meeting," paintings by Italian artists of the 17th-century Bassano studio. Works of Dostoevsky’s era are also preserved in the fund, including
portraits of his relatives and of the writer’s contemporaries (“Portrait of
A.F.Kumannaja,” artist unknown, mid-19th century; “Portrait of a Young Man,”
artist unknown, mid-19th century).
A significant part
of the collection is made up of paintings by modern artists, including portraits
of F.M.Dostoevsky and his heroes, scenes from the writer’s works, and Petersburg
landscapes. The works of such artists as Y.Galitsky, I.Ivanov, E.Kapeliush,
V.Ovchinikov, and others are also represented.
The
collection also includes sculptures of F.M.Dostoevsky and of the heroes of his
works. Some of the most interesting
of these pieces are the bust of F.M.Dostoevsky by R.Bach, the sculpture of
Alesha Karamazov by G.Glikman, and the portraits of F.M.Dostoevsky done by
S.Apilov, N.Dydykin, S.Konenkov, and E.Neizvestny.

The Museum is continually adding to its collection of
works by modern artists; the exposition “F.M.Dostoevsky in Twentieth-Century
Art” was created with this goal in mind.
